Short Bio

Marian R. Stuart, Ph.D. is Clinical Professor and Director of Behavioral Science in the Department of Family Medicine, UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Dr. Stuart received her Bachelors Degree in Psychology, Summa Cum Laude, from Kean College in 1971. Her Masters Degree in 1973 and her Ph.D. in Social/Personality Psychology in 1975 are both from Rutgers University. Principal author of The Fifteen Minute Hour: Practical Therapeutic Intervention in Primary Care, 3rd Edition, she has presented internationally in areas of communications skills, mind-body medicine, geriatrics, family dynamics, stress management and medical education. An expert in group dynamics, she is an accomplished facilitator of retreats for professional groups. Additionally, she maintains a small private practice as a Licensed Psychologist in Morristown, NJ.

Having chaired the Education Committee of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) for 4 years, Dr. Stuart was elected as Secretary/Treasurer of that organization in the spring of 2002. She also currently serves as a Trustee of the STFM Foundation. In 1997, STFM accorded Dr. Stuart its highest honor, the Excellence in Education Award. She is a charter member and the Vice President for Finance of the Master Educators Guild of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. More recently, the House of Delegates of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) installed Dr. Stuart to Honorary Membership in their organization, an extraordinary achievement for a non-physician.
